Back Of Dollhouse

Once upon time...

As the mind wanders through the land of miniature people and their tiny residence...

I'm a determined amateur, spending countless hours trying to figure out how to recreate some of these miniature pieces.  I confess...this is my favorite hobby.   If you search the internet on this subject you will discover many beautiful houses along with some very intricate tiny possessions.  There are many talented miniaturists out there!

My real home-life is so full of male stuff.  Boys, boys, boys... 3 silly boys, along with lots of baseball, skateboards, snowboards, GI Joes, blood and guts video games, muddy floors, stinky socks, tons of dirty dishes and a refrigerator that should be equipped with a revolving door!

This encouraged me to ask my dad to please PLEASE make me a dollhouse (a replica of the house I grew up in).  My original plan was to recapture the feminine part of me that disappeared somewhere in the backyard with a dozen or so matchbox cars and a gazillion plastic army men.  Dad's woodworking skills really impress me!  He is just the best dad!  He worked on the dollhouse in his spare time (by the way, what is spare time??).  It took him a couple years to finish the project but for me it was well worth the wait!

The dollhouse is a 1950's style ranch home.  It's not the typical 'open in the back' dollhouse.  You have to lift off the roof to peek inside.  It's approximately 3 feet wide by 4 feet long.  Dad did an excellent job duplicating all the rooms!  Even placement of the doors and windows and the little cubbies are exactly as I remember it.

I have to laugh because I've had this dollhouse for about 4 years now and I'm still not finished with the decorating...a dollhouse womans work is never done.  You will see that I still need to make curtains for some of the rooms, hang some pictures and add a few more finishing touches like a shower curtain and something over the toilet because it looks so bare there (gasp)!

The boys used to torment my dollhouse with their fully outfitted GI Joes until I threatened to blow up their GI Joes with some miniature dynamite (heheh).  Hey!  Just a thought...maybe I could use some of that mini GI Joe stuff for my dollhouse.  I don't really look at everything as a miniature you know (do I detect a bit of denial here).  I mean if that were true lifes big problems would be just a miniature dilemma.  I could handle THAT!

So!  Get yourself a snack, a drink, kick back and check out my site!
